Yan Chai Hospital MSC 9W Completed Installation: The corridor features a complete Gerflor SPM medical-grade protection system. This includes upper SPM Starline ergonomic handrails, wall-height SPM Linea'Punch impact-resistant panels, and SPM Cornea corner protectors at nursing stations and wall turns. The seamless joint design prevents dirt accumulation and fully complies with Hospital Authority (HA) hygiene, durability, and accessibility compliance standards.

Project Background & Hospital Authority (HA) Specifications

Corridors, A&E departments, and ward passageways in public hospitals face continuous daily impact from heavy hospital beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment trolleys. Traditional wall finishes are highly susceptible to denting, scratching, and harbouring bacteria over time.

The Hospital Authority (HA) enforces stringent Tender Specifications (Tender Spec) for wall protection systems, requiring materials to satisfy three core criteria:

  1. Exceptional Impact Resistance: Prevents structural damage caused by collisions with heavy medical equipment.

  2. Seamless Hygiene & Easy Maintenance: Non-porous surfaces that withstand frequent cleaning with high-concentration disinfectants (e.g., bleach and alcohol) without fading or degradation.

  3. Ergonomic & Fall Safety: Handrail systems must comply with Barrier-free Access (BFA) design standards.

💡 Project Director Expert Insight
"Wall protection in public hospitals is far more than an aesthetic consideration—it directly impacts operational efficiency and patient safety. For the Yan Chai Hospital project, our engineering team meticulously calculated the collision heights of hospital beds and visual recognition angles. By integrating the SPM system with seamless transitions at corners and handrails, we ensured the installation meets HA's rigorous anti-bacterial and durability standards under high-traffic conditions."

SPM System Solutions & Technical Breakdown

1. SPM Linea'Punch Impact-Resistant Wall Protection Panel

Installed along the lower section of corridor walls, this heavy-duty panel absorbs and dissipates impact forces from heavy medical carts, safeguarding the wall structure and extending facility lifespan.

2. SPM Starline Medical-Grade Protection Handrail

Combines dual functions of wall collision protection and patient support. The dual-color stripe enhances visual contrast for visually impaired patients, while the ergonomically contoured grip provides firm support for individuals with mobility needs.

3. SPM Cornea Corner Protector

Specifically designed to protect vulnerable wall corners. Its rounded profile and internal cushioning significantly reduce impact damage and minimize the risk of accidental injury during patient transfers.
